More than 100 species of birds are common to the Playa Escondida area. On your own or on our guided bird watching hikes you are sure to see and hear many of them. Luis, our biologist guide, is available on weekends to take you on personalized hikes where you'll see parrots, parakeets, woodpeckers and many other beautiful birds in the nearby jungle.

Whale watching expeditions allow you to get close enough to feel the spirit of these magnificent humpbacks without disturbing their breeding and calving activities. Humpbacks are exciting 30 ton creatures who sing beautiful songs and cavort effortlessly in the sea. Don't miss the opportunity to see them!

We have sea turtles who nest on our beach for whom we protect their eggs and hatchlings. We release them in the evening on the day of their hatching to protect them from predator birds. If some hatch while you're here you can help with the release.

A horseback ride on a jungle trail or the ride to the top of Monkey Mountain is sure to put you in touch with nature. Don't miss this opportunity as even a beginner can do either ride.
